This webinar is designed to identify key aspects of developing culturally responsive practices for practitioners working with older adults. The goal of the workshop is to explore how various forms of identity such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and religion can impact work with clients. The workshop will also explore the ways we voluntarily and involuntarily display identity, power and privilege in our work. 

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • Introduce key components of culturally responsive practice, diversity, inclusion and identity
  • Examine examples of culturally responsive practices when for working with older adults 
  • Create a space for participants to develop two ideas to enhance the culturally responsive practice in their work

About the Presenter

Genisha Metcalf specializes in developing Diversity and Inclusion strategies, fundraising, building institutional partnerships and nonprofit leadership development. Genisha has trained hundreds of corporate and community leaders on fundraising skills, community engagement strategies and developing culturally responsive practices. Her clients include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lincoln Hall Boys' Haven, State Senator Brian Benjamin's Task Force Next and YSC Consulting Firm.

Prior to launching her own consulting firm, Genisha held several community and corporate engagement roles throughout the course of her career. Genisha led community engagement, alumni relations and institutional partnership strategy for the New York City Metro area as Director of Corporate and Community Relations for the Utica College Accelerate Nursing Program. Prior to joining Utica College, Genisha served as the Corporate Partnerships Manager for City Year New York. In this role Genisha mobilized over 4,000 community and corporate volunteers and generated over $1.5M in corporate sponsorship revenue. Genisha began her career in child welfare services, with a focus on training, community engagement and behavioral health counseling. Genisha leverages her career experiences in social services to help businesses and nonprofit leaders develop philanthropic initiatives to support high need communities.

Genisha is the founder of Creating Our Own Legacy (COOL) Kids, a nonprofit organization that engages youth and young adults of color in community service. Genisha is a member of the District 3 Community Education Council, in this role she oversees educational policy for 9,000+ New York City Public School students. Genisha holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Temple University and a Master of Science in Social Work from Fordham University, where she serves as an Adjunct Professor.

Continuing Education Credit Hours

ALCA has been approved for 1 CE contact hour from CBRN, NACCM, and NYSED, and has applied for approval from NASW and CCMC. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # 15884, for 1 Contact Hour. Aging Life Care Association, SW CPE is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #0166. This event has been approved for 1.0 contact hour. Attendee must attend entire webinar to receive any CE certificates. Attendees requesting a CE Certificate for Social Work (NASW or NYSED) must successfully submit and pass a post-test prior to receiving CE certificate.

Cancellation Policy

The registration fee for webinars is non-refundable. Registrants who are not able to attend the webinar will receive audio & video files following the event. For clinical webinars, CE contact hours will not be available to those who are not able to attend the entire live event.

In the unfortunate event that a webinar needs to be cancelled or rescheduled ALCA will notify the registrant by email and provide information on the new date or alternative arrangements. If the registrant is not able to attend the new date ALCA will refund the registration fee or place a credit towards a future event.
