37th Annual ALCA Conference-Call for Proposals

2021 ANNUAL CONFERENCE CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The Aging Life Care Association® dedicated to providing high quality educational programs for the Aging Life Care Professional®/geriatric care manager community invites you to share your knowledge, expertise, and experience at our 37th Annual Conference “Running the Marathon of Caring in the Now Normal” at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel  in Boston, MA – April 19-24, 2021.

The Aging Life Care Association® is a non-profit association made up of almost 2,000 members from all over the US & Canada, who provide guidance and advocate for families who are caring for older relatives or disabled adults. ALCA proudly brings over 400 educated and experience Aging Life Care Professionals and supporters together annually for quality continuing education and networking.

We are seeking proposals for presentations of all levels of expertise for three different tracks: Clinical/Client Centered, Business Development, and Legal, Ethics & Policy and/or 8 different knowledge areas including: Health and Disability, Financial, Housing, Families, Local Resources, Advocacy, Legal and Crisis Intervention. The average session length is 60-75 minutes and speakers are encouraged to allow a brief time for Q&A.

This year in particular, we are interested in focusing on more complex, advanced level topics which may include but aren’t limited to:

Clinical/Client Centered Track

Suggested topics include but aren’t limited to…

  • Tele Med Options/Working Virtually with Clients
  • Disease management in relation to Aging Life Care™
  • Dementia: pathophysiology, medications, management
  • Complementary Therapies/ Integrated Arts, cultural and alternative therapeutic interventions
  • Virtually executing SLUMS, MOCA & Other Cognitive Evaluations
  • Behavioral health
  • Issues with aging special needs clients & families/caregiver stress
  • Professional grieving for our clients (Compassion Fatigue)
  • Care/services for LGBTQ Older Adults
  • Opioids Use in Older Adults/Detox/Treatment
  • Managing brain injury clients: short term and long-term issues

Business Development Track

Legal, Ethics & Policy Track

  • Cannabis Therapeutics – State vs. Federal Issues
  • Fraud/Elder abuse issues
  • Guardianship issues
  • Observation status in hospitals: how to advocate for your clients
  • Spirituality/Ethnic Diversity in aging and dying
  • Becoming a legal expert
  • Medicare/Legal responsibilities on ethical conflicts
  • Mediation
  • Cultural Competence – Addressing Diversity & Inclusion
  • HIPAA issues in ALC Practice
  • Working with adults aging without family support

 

All proposals must be submitted electronically by September 18, 2020

General Information for Speakers

Materials and information presented should reflect the ethics and standards of the Aging Life Care Association®. As a non-profit organization, ALCA is unable to provide airfare, hotel costs, or an honorarium for presenters.  Presenters wishing to attend other Conference programs must pay the appropriate registration fee.   All ALCA presenters are required to identify/resolve in writing any/all potential conflicts of interest or commercial support that he/she has a financial relationship with and/or that may bias his/her participation in this activity.  

Only electronic submissions will be considered. Proposals received after September 18, 2020 will be considered on a space-available basis only.  The 2021 ALCA Programs Sub-Committee will review all proposals and make the selection of speakers and topics based on the following criteria: overall quality and originality; continuing education applicability and appropriateness to this program. All who have submitted proposals will be notified no later than November 15, 2020.

All ALCA presenters are expected to submit high-quality materials in addition to PowerPoint slides to support their presentation and for distribution to our conference attendees electronically approximately six weeks prior to the conference.  Upon selection, you will receive a confirmation packet with instructions for submitting any additional handouts or PowerPoint slides to support your presentation for distribution to our conference attendees.
