San Diego HAPPINESS is Calling!

Welcome to San Diego, California's beach city where blue skies and friendly locals create a welcoming vibe. Beachside attitude, big city excitement!

With near perfect weather year-round, 70 miles of spectacular coastline, world-class attractions and a thriving urban core, complete with a sophisticated art, dining and nightlife scene, San Diego has earned the name California’s beach city.

Explore San Diego’s diverse coastal, urban and inland neighborhoods, each with its own flavor. Don’t miss sampling the areas signature Cali Baja cuisine or tasting one of the hundreds of craft beers and wines bottled in the region.

After a day at the beach or other outdoor adventure, head to the party downtown at one of the sizzling nightclubs or rooftop bars. If art and culture is your passion, you’ll find an exciting hub of creativity in San Diego. Often referred to as the “Smithsonian of the West,” Balboa Park features 17 museums, numerous galleries and performing arts venues as well as the San Diego Zoo.

It’s hard to find a better destination for both business and leisure and we encourage you to plan for both. Whether you love engaging with animals or thrill rides, building sandcastles or beach bonfires, there’s plenty to entertain the entire family from sun up to sun down.

Happiness is calling from San Diego, it’s time to answer the call and start planning your vacation now.  For more information, go to www.sandiego.org.

CONFERENCE DETAILS

Why Attend: This conference is critical to our continued pursuit of professional excellence, training and certification. We know that you have to be choosy when it comes to educational/travel expenses and we feel confident the conference agenda and networking opportunities, as well as the conference location, will provide you with multiple reasons to choose our conference!

In addition to great networking, many opportunities to visit with exhibitors and dynamic general sessions, we will be offering multiple breakout sessions each with a CLINICAL, LEGAL/ETHICAL, INNOVATIVE PRACTICE or SELF CARE focus. The pre-conference intensives (separate fee) on Thursday will likely have an INNOVATIVE PRACTICE (BUSINESS) and/or SELF CARE focus and, though quite valuable, may be non-credit sessions.

We’ve planned some fun and relaxation too! The conference kicks off with a WRC-ALCA “Beach Blanket Bingo” Welcome Reception on the beach!

Conference Dates:September 20-22, 2018. Pre-conference intensives will be offered during the day on Thursday, September 20th (beginning at approximately 8:30 a.m.). The conference will kick off with a welcome reception on the 20th and will conclude at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, the 22nd.

Conference Agenda: CLICK HERE to access the tentative (as of 7/3/18) At-A-Glance agenda. See the detailed program of events for session and presenter details. A detailed program of events including session and presenter details will be posted by early July.

Call for Proposals: The proposal window has close. If interested, we encourage you to submit a proposal for the next conference when the time comes.

Sponsors & Exhibitors: Get involved with the BEST conference for reaching those influencing older adults! Care Managers are health and human services professionals serving the rapidly growing senior population who can afford your services! Our membership includes approximately 400 Aging Life Care Professionals serving clientele in the Western United States (includes 13 states and British Columbia).  Care Managers serve the rapidly growing senior population who can afford your services. In addition to Care Managers, you’ll also reach allied professionals in the aging community along with vendors in other disciplines. This is a unique opportunity to access qualified leads to seniors, family members and to other professional consumers.

Opportunities range from a high of $10,000 for an event sponsorship to a low of $100 for a business card ad. Our fundraising efforts help to keep the registration fees reasonable and allow us to offer the best possible conference package to participants. Those who commit by July 31, 2018 receive a 10% discount. CLICK HERE for additional information and the commitment form.

We encourage members to consider placing a business card in the program. More importantly, we need your help in passing these opportunities – sponsor, exhibitor and advertiser – on to vendors that you use.

Donations: We encourage you to consider making a donation and to pass this opportunity on to others. Opportunity drawings, silent auction and other on-site activities (as scheduled) raise funds to support WRC-ALCA member needs and activities. For information on how to donate an item or to make a cash donation to assist in purchasing items, please contact [email protected].

Continuing Education Hours: WRC-ALCA has APPLIED to offer the multiple CE opportunities. We anticipate the core conference to include approximately 10 credit hours. The pre-conference intensives, though valuable, will likely be non-credit sessions.

A Uniform Certificate of Attendance is included in the conference fee and may be used for NACCM and general credit. If you need credit for any of the other certifications, the certificates will be $50* each on-site. Assuming approval, credit will be offered as appropriate. Not all classes will necessarily receive credit for each certification category. Approval information will be posted on the WRC-ALCA website a minimum of two weeks prior to the conference and earlier where possible. We encourage you to check back periodically. Applications will be submitted to:

NACCM (National Academy of Certified Care Managers)

PFB (Professional Fiduciaries Bureau)

• CCMC (Commission for Case Manager Certification) for CCM (Certified Case Manager) certification

• NASW (National Association of Social Workers; includes CA MFT’s and Social Workers)

• Arizona Nurses Association (Nursing CEs are applicable in all western states; see below)

This activity is pending approval from the National Association of Social Workers. This activity will be submitted to the Arizona Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. The Arizona Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This program will be submitted to the Commission for Case Managers Certification for approval.

HOTEL DETAILS

Hotel Basics:
Immerse in the tropical ambiance of casual island luxury at our beachfront Resort in San Diego. Bury your toes in the sand. We’re really happy to see you. The Kona Kai San Diego resort is a boutique hotel that offers a relaxed vibe of island luxury. What guests notice first is the striking contrast of traditional Spanish Colonial style, which we’ve infused with modern elements. Dark wood against white textiles creates a breathtaking airiness of divine distinction.

At the tip of Shelter Island, the southern California vibe emanates at our beachfront hotel in San Diego. Sun, surf and sea create the tropical essence of our beachfront hotel in San Diego. With a rich history steeped in the beat and bravura of Polynesian and Spanish Colonial, Kona Kai is a restyled creation of fresh, fun elegance punctuated by casual luxury. Perfect for an executive meeting, a surprise getaway or a romantic wedding, Kona Kai offers the right space for the right occasion. You’ll find that space amidst quiet, private beaches, lush tropical gardens, astounding bay and marina views along San Diego’s most magnificent stretch of waterfront.

Reservations: We have negotiated an incredible room rate of $189 plus 12.695% tax per night for the group.
We recommend ONLINE RESERVATIONS for best accuracy and immediate confirmation. As an alternative, you may also call reservations at (800) 566-2524 and request the “WRC-ALCA” group rate. Though the rate will be honored, based on availability, until 5:00 p.m. on August 28, 2018, the group block could potentially sell out at any time. For that reason, we encourage early reservations. Should the block sell out prior to the cut-off date, we will attempt to add more rooms to the block (as available) or will set up an overflow hotel. Cancellations must be made a minimum of 48 hours prior to arrival date to avoid penalties.

IMPORTANT: Unless there are cancellations, the block at Kona Kai is sold out at this point and we are unable to add more rooms. However, we have another option for you! We just set up an overflow hotel at the Island Palms Hotel & Marina next door to the Kna Kai. The rate is $189,guest room internet is complimentary and parking is $15 per night. To make your reservations, go to https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/book/hotel-rooms.05326.html?groupId=P71RR7S6 or call (800) 922-0561 by or before 5:00 p.m. on August 28th and ask for the "Western Region Chapter, Aging Life Care Association" rate.

By booking in the group block at the Kona Kai Resort & Spa you:

  • Will experience the comfort and convenience of this recently renovated hotel and all it has to offer including amazing views, beautiful grounds, beach access, walking paths and more.
  • May change your reservation at any time if needed. That is not always the case with rooms booked at other hotels online or elsewhere.
  • Will be sure the room you book is the quality contracted. The room/hotel you book online may not be comparable to the rooms in the conference room block. Remember, you get what you pay for!
  • Only have to take a short walk from your room to get to the meeting space. If you are using a discount service, your hotel may not be close to the conference hotel, so you won’t be able to sneak back to your room for a nap, snack, or to check email between sessions.
  • Avoid any transportation costs during the conference. If your hotel is not within reasonable walking distance of the conference hotel, you will incur cab costs which may offset any savings that you received. You also have to build in extra time for this.

As importantly, you support WRCC-ALCA by booking into the block as it assists us in meeting our contractual minimum commitment to the hotel and helps us in keeping the conference fees reasonable for you.

Airport/Ground Transportation: The SAN DIEGO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (SAN) is serviced by approximately 20 different airlines with 500 flights a say.

The airport is 4.1 miles northeast of the hotel. Transportation options include:

Parking: We have negotiated special overnight parking rates of $14 self and $20 valet. For daytime parking, the hotel will be validating parking tickets to a special $10 parking rate for day only event attendees.

Internet: Complimentary wireless internet access in all guestrooms and in public areas. We are also providing complimentary Wi-Fi in the meeting space.

Pet Policy: The hotel is pet friendly offering the Island Paws Program.

GENERAL

Local Area: Go to www.sandiego.org for information on the area and much, much more. We will have maps, restaurant guides and area brochures available at the conference. Additional opportunities may be emailed prior to the conference.

Attire: The conference is business casual. We encourage you to bring a sweater or light jacket as inside temperatures can vary and for evenings. Remember to bring your walking shoes if you plan to leave the hotel! Check the weather at www.weather.com before packing!

Questions: For questions regarding conference registration or logistics including challenges with room reservations, please contact MeetingWise LLC (WRC-ALCA’s meeting management partner) at 310-937-9473 or [email protected]. They will get back to you within 24 to 48 business hours.
