The footprint of Parkinson’s Disease is large, both from the perspective of the growing numbers of people diagnosed and the degree of biopsychosocial impact to the individual and their care partner. In this session, Aging Life Care Managers™ will take a deep dive into Parkinson’s Disease in order to better advocate for clients and care partners alike.?
CEs: The Chapter is seeking approval for 3 CE contact hours from the California Board of Registered Nursing(CBRN), Provider # 15884, NASW, and NACCM. Attendee must attend entire LIVE webinar to receive any CE certificates.

- What Parkinson’s Disease is, who it impacts and why it is a growing concern?.
- What the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are, how it is diagnosed and how it changes over time.
- The difference between general neurology and movement disorder specialists.
- Current available medications, targeted therapies and considerations related to treatment.
- How to advocate for clients at home, in the hospital and in community settings.

Presented by Dr. Abigail Lawler
Dr. Abigail Lawler is a board-certified member of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Lawler is originally from Ohio where she completed undergrad at Ohio University and also studied abroad through Duke University in Costa Rica where she completed a Spanish immersion program. She came back to Ohio for medical school at University of Toledo and then went on to complete her residency training in neurology at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington D.C., where she served as chief resident. Dr. Lawler stayed at Georgetown University to complete a fellowship in Movement and Memory Disorders, helped start the first ever Parkinsonism and Dementia clinic, and participated in baseline cognitive and neurologic assessments of retired NFL players for the NFL Players association.
Dr. Lawler is well versed in treating many different neurologic conditions but specializes in treating Movement Disorders offering a wide variety of treatment options beyond traditional medical management for Parkinson’s Disease. Dr. Lawler also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of Autonomic conditions, muscle dystonia as well as spasticity using Botulinum toxin injections, as well as all of the various types of Dementia. Dr. Lawler is very passionate about the care and treatment of patients with memory disorders.
After several years in San Diego, where she served as Medical Director with the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego, in the fall of 2022 Dr. Lawler joined the Inova Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center to serve as Autonomics Director and their fifth movement disorders specialist.
