Benchmarking Study

Care Management Benchmarking Study News

In February 2014, in collaboration with Home Care Pulse, ALCA (formerly the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers) conducted the first-ever Care Management Benchmarking Study.

The study compared members’ business profiles in the following areas:

  • Profit & Loss
  • Referral Growth
  • Fees & Services
  • Wages & Benefits
  • Marketing & Sales Practices

and much more…

Survey results were presented at the ALCA/NAPGCM 30th Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Home Care Pulse CEO Aaron Marcum presented an overview of the findings. Click here to view the Presentation Slides.

Why Benchmarking?

Results of this study provided a comprehensive overview of our industry and important data that is valuable to individual Aging Life Care™/care management companies.

As Aging Life Care Professionals™/GCMs we’ve been frustrated by the lack of data about our field and by our inability to prove what we believe is the profound impact we have on the lives of our clients and their families. We have also been stymied by lack of concrete information about some basic practice issues such as: How many clients do we serve? What is the average ratio of referrals to open cases? What is the average number of billable hours for Aging Life Care Professionals/GCMs? What is our client turnover and growth rate? What are effective strategies to market Aging Life Care/care management services?

The 2014 Benchmark Study was the first step forward in answering many of these questions and in giving us a data-driven overview of our industry, as well as ways for Aging Life Care Professionals/GCMs to measure their own practices against emerging industry standards.

The Benchmarking study provides us with another important tool that helps define and measure our successes now and in the future.

Our 2014 President’s Remarks

In May 2015 the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (NAPGCM) changed its name to Aging Life Care Association™ (ALCA). The profession of “Geriatric Care Management,” as defined by this organization, was changed to the Aging Life Care™ profession and its practitioners “Aging Life Care Professionals™. The use of the phrases “Aging Life Care” and “geriatric care management” on these pages share the same meaning.
