Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease: Similarities & Differences

This webinar will focus on specific similarities and differences of Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease.  Participants will better understand the history, epidemiology and pathophysiology of both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. Dr. Boland will discuss the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment options for different dementias and Parkinson’s Disease.

The goal of this webinar is to identify the similarities and differences of Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease.

Participants will be able:

  • identify the different types of dementia that may have parkinsonian features
  • describe how the different types of dementia present related to parkinsonian features
  • understand when the onset of cognitive impairment and dementia occurs in Parkinson’s Disease

About the Presenter:
Dr. Boland is a Neurologist, Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  She completed fellowship training specializing in Movement Disorders at Duke University. Dr. Boland earned her medical degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Desfo Moines University has a rich osteopathic history and is one of the oldest osteopathic medical schools in the country.
Following medical school, Dr. Boland completed internship and neurology residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine/OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. Dr. Boland has a passion for improving patient’s quality of life.  She enjoys establishing long-term relationships with her patients and educating them on ways to live a fuller life in the setting of neurodegenerative disease. She started in healthcare as a Physical Therapist and received her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Andrews University in Berrien Springs Michigan. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Boland practiced as a Physical Therapist for 10 years. She lives with her husband and two children in Tampa Bay.  Dr. Boland greatly appreciates all that metropolitan Florida coastal living has to offer and enjoys the beach, running, scuba diving, mountain biking, cooking, and spending time with family.

Continuing Education Credit Hours
ALCA has been approved for 1 CE contact hour from CBRN, NACCM, and NYSED, and has applied for approval from NASW and CCMC. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # 15884, for 1 Contact Hour. Aging Life Care Association, SW CPE is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #0166. This event has been approved for 1.0 contact hour. Attendee must attend entire webinar to receive any CE certificates. Attendees requesting a CE Certificate for Social Work (NASW or NYSED) must successfully submit and pass a post-test prior to receiving CE certificate.

Cancellation Policy
The registration fee for webinars is non-refundable. Registrants who are not able to attend the webinar will receive audio & video files following the event. For clinical webinars, CE contact hours will not be available to those who are not able to attend the entire live event. In the unfortunate event that a webinar needs to be cancelled or rescheduled ALCA will notify the registrant by email and provide information on the new date or alternative arrangements. If the registrant is not able to attend the new date ALCA will refund the registration fee or place a credit towards a future event.
