Aging Life Care Association™ (ALCA) offers individual memberships tailored for different stages in one’s career. Individual memberships include the Advanced, Professional, Associate, Student, and Emeritus levels of membership.

Please take a minute to review the information provided on this page to find the membership level that is right for you.

Please note change in membership level names:

  • Fellow Certified Care Managers & Certified Care Managers are now listed as “Advanced” level members.
  • Associate Care Managers are now listed in the “Professional” level of membership
  • Provisional Geriatric Care Managers are now listed in the “Associate” level of membership.
  • Student Members have not changed

Important Note:

Membership qualifications for each level of membership have changed. If you are joining in 2016 (or during October-December of 2015), you must meet these new requirements. This applies to new members only.

Advanced Level Member (formerly Certified Geriatric Care Manager)

Includes voting members currently practicing Aging Life Care™ also known as care management. Members of this category must meet the following prerequisites:

  1. Education and Experience
    1. A person who holds a Baccalaureate, Master’s or Ph.D. degree with at least one degree held in a field related to care management, i.e. counseling, nursing, mental health, social work, psychology or gerontology;
      1. is primarily engaged in the direct practice, administration or supervision of client-centered services to the elderly and their families; and
      2. has two years of supervised experience in the field of care management following the completion of the degree. OR
    2. Non-degreed RNs and other individuals with a Baccalaureate, Masters or Ph.D. degree;
      1. are primarily engaged in the direct practice, administration or supervision of client-centered services to the elderly and their families; and
      2. have three years supervised experience in the field of care management. and
  2. Certification
    1. Holds a current certificate in one of the ALCA-approved certifications.

The Advanced level also includes members designated as Fellows of the Leadership Academy. Current ALCA Members may log in to learn more about becoming a Fellow.

Professional Level Member (formerly Associate Geriatric Care Manager)

A non-voting member who meets the criteria for membership in the Advanced level of membership (formerly Certified Geriatric Care Manager category), but does NOT currently hold one of the ALCA-Approved Certifications.

  1. Education and Experience
    1. A person who holds a Baccalaureate, Master’s or Ph.D. degree with at least one degree held in a field related to care management, i.e. counseling, nursing, mental health, social work, psychology or gerontology;
      1. is primarily engaged in the direct practice, administration or supervision of client-centered services to the elderly and their families; and
      2. has two years of supervised experience in the field of care management following the completion of the degree. OR
    2. Non-degreed RNs and other individuals with a Baccalaureate, Masters or Ph.D. degree;
      1. are primarily engaged in the direct practice, administration or supervision of client-centered services to the elderly and their families; and
      2. have three years supervised experience in the field of care management.

Associate Level Member (formerly Provisional Member)

A non-voting member who meets the educational criteria for membership in the Advanced level of membership (formerly Certified Geriatric Care Manager category), but does NOT have the required 2- or 3-years of experience and does NOT hold one of the ALCA-Approved Certifications.

  1. Education and Experience
    1. A person who holds a Baccalaureate, Master’s or Ph.D. degree with at least one degree held in a field related to care management, i.e. counseling, nursing, mental health, social work, psychology or gerontology;
      1. is primarily engaged in the direct practice, administration or supervision of client-centered services to the elderly and their families; and
      2. is currently working on obtaining two years of supervised experience in the field of care management following the completion of the degree. OR
    2. Non-degreed RNs and other individuals with a Baccalaureate, Masters or Ph.D. degree;
      1. are primarily engaged in the direct practice, administration or supervision of client-centered services to the elderly and their families; and
      2. is currently working on obtaining three years supervised experience in the field of care management.

Student Member

A non-voting member who is presently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or a certificate program from an accredited University or College with an interest in Aging Life Care / geriatric care management. Must show proof of enrollment with each renewal.

Emeritus Member

A non-voting member who is retired from the active practice of Aging Life Care / care management and has been an ALCA member in good standing at the Advanced level (formerly Certified Geriatric Care Manager) for a minimum of five (5) years.
