Care Manager Certification

ALCA does not offer Certification to its members; however, ALCA does recognize four certifications provided by three certifying bodies: the National Academy of Certified Care Managers (NACCM), Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC), and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

All ALCA members who aspire to be recognized as Advanced level members must hold at least one of the four certifications in addition to education and work experience requirements. Certification, education, and experience requirements have been approved by ALCA Membership.

Members of ALCA at the Advanced Level of Membership have the opportunity be recognized as “Certified” in the Find an Aging Life Care Expert Search (formerly Find a Care Manager) on the ALCA Website. Advanced Level Members and those who hold a Fellow designation also receive free access to live clinical webinars and recorded conference podcasts.

For additional resources on certification and re-certification requirements please visit our Certification Page. To inquire about specific application and process requirements, please contact each certifying body directly.

Aging Life Care / Geriatric Care Manager Curricula Recommendations

With the influx of Aging Life Care / geriatric care management certificate programs, both online and provided by brick-and-mortar institutions of learning, ALCA believes that uniformity of purpose is vital to develop Aging Life Care Professionals / Geriatric Care Managers of tomorrow.

In response to requests by many academic communities for assistance, ALCA has adapted recommended core competencies set forth by the Partnership for Health in Aging (PHA) for academic communities in the process of developing geriatric care management programs. Those recommendations with added core competencies may be found by clicking here.
