A Message from the CEO

This year I will celebrate my 10th anniversary with the Aging Life Care Association™. My first day on the job was September 11, 2006 when I attended my first board meeting just before the annual conference in Newport Beach, California. And thus began the most challenging, stimulating, and satisfying period of my career.

While I am pleased and proud of the work we have done together, I do feel the time is right for a new person to step into the role of Chief Executive Officer – someone who brings a fresh perspective and new talents to the position. Therefore, I have given the Board notice of my retirement as of December 31, 2016. Yesterday we also made the announcement at the Chapter Presidents meeting.

I have had the privilege of working with 11 boards of directors, led by Linda Aufderhaar, Mary Lynn Pannen, Monika White, Phyllis Brostoff, Linda Fodrini-Johnson, Susan Fleischer, Byron Cordes, Jullie Gray, Emily Saltz, Jeff Pine, and Dianne McGraw. I’ve been exposed to the best of the best in the profession and made many good friends within the membership.

I have also been lucky enough to work with a smart and caring staff – Julie Wagner, Amanda Mizell, Sarah Garcia, Callie Daters, and Chelsea Stewart. And meeting planner Pam Carlson, who feels like staff.

The Board has appointed a CEO Search Task Force to lead the way in finding ALCA’s next CEO. They have already engaged a search firm to manage the process. Please be sure to read Amy Cameron O’Rourke’s update from the Task Force in the upcoming issue of Inside ALCA.

The CEO Position Profile has been posted below and is available to all our members.

In the meantime, we still have lots to do before I leave! I hope we’ll see many of you in New York for our 32nd Annual Conference April 15-17. In the coming months we will be working full tilt to accomplish the many initiatives set forth in the 2016 Strategic Plan, including increasing membership, building the brand, strengthening and unifying the organization, and developing educational strategies.

Thank you to everyone for the successes, the surprises, the fun, and the fond memories of the last 10 years. You are a group like no other and I count myself fortunate to have come your way.

Warm regards,
Kaaren Boothroyd
